The Hague Humanity Hub
Fluwelen Burgwal 58, 2511 CJ Den Haag, Niederlande
Hundreds of Iraqis who were detained by UK forces during the Iraq war have described abuse and torture. Their testimonies show a pattern of violent beatings, sleep deprivation, lack of food, religious humiliation and sexual abuse. The UK has not genuinely investigated senior officials’ accountability for the abuses in Iraq. Therefore, ECCHR is calling on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to open a formal investigation.
At this event, we will discuss why it is of crucial importance that the ICC investigates UK torture in Iraq. Focusing on the international law community in The Hague, the speakers will address the importance of the case for the ICC as an institution, the domestic British debate and views from the MENA region.
Andrew Cayley, Director of UK Service Prosecutions
The event will be held in English.
We look forward to welcoming you at this event and kindly ask you to register by 25 September 2019 (please note that no confirmation will be sent).
