Rights without guarantee? Presentation of the ECCHR Annual Report 2025

Berlin

European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR)
Zossener Str. 55-58 (Staircase D), 10961 Berlin

What does it mean to work with international law today – in a world where it is not only broken by autocrats, but also by those who once upheld it?

This is a question we at ECCHR ask ourselves every day. In Sudan, gold looting finances war. In Ukraine, in Gaza, and in Iran, the law applies to some – but apparently not to others. Companies profit from conflicts, arms exports fuel them. And of all actors, it is the Western democracies that champion international law which are increasingly undermining it.

But history is not predetermined.

On May 18, we will present our Annual Report 2025 and discuss with Wolfgang Kaleck (ECCHR, General Secretary), Miriam Saage-Maaß (ECCHR, Legal Director), the artist Ahmed Isamaldin, the author and journalist Şeyda Kurt and Sinthujan Varatharajah (ECCHR, Fundraising and Partnerships) what it means to oppose the law of the strongest with the strength of the law.

Ahmed Isamaldin will present artistic research works on Sudan in our cafeteria: satellite images of gold mines and 3D models show how resource exploitation and war economies become visible when you take a closer look.

We invite you: to gain insight into our work, to join the discussion, and – of course – to enjoy a drink and a live DJ set.

The event will be held in English.
