Ruham Hawash is an activist and community organizer who focuses on grassroots movements in Palestine, Syria and beyond. They hold a B.Sc. in Economics, an M.Sc. in Finance, and an M.A. in Peace and Security.
Hawash led a civil society support organization for a decade, helping to incubate local initiatives across Syria. They also served on the board of a humanitarian aid network for several years. Their work emphasizes collective power, solidarity and collaboration among communities and human rights defenders striving for justice and liberation. Hawash was a joint plaintiff in the al-Khatib trial, the world's first trial on Syrian state torture.
Since August 2025, Hawash has been working with ECCHR's International Crimes and Accountability Program to advance human rights principles and contribute to transitional justice efforts in and for Syria. Their approach is grounded in community-based knowledge, accountability, and decolonization in practice.
