Sönke Hilbrans studied law at Universität Trier and is a lawyer in Berlin. He specialized in criminal law and furthermore practices in administrative law, focusing on data protection, freedom of information and human rights. Since 2014, he has served as a volunteer judge at the Constitutional Court of Berlin. Hilbrans has coauthored commentaries on data protection and residency law. For many years, he served on the board of the Republikanischer Anwältinnen- und Anwälteverein and the Deutschen Vereinigung für Datenschutz. He has been a partner lawyer since ECCHR’s establishment, and joined our team as a senior legal advisor in 2016.
