Alejandra Ancheita

Alejandra Ancheita holds a law degree from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Mexico, and a master’s degree ininternational law and global justice from Fordham University, US. In 2019, she received an horonary doctorate from the Université Paris Nanterre, France. Ancheita is founder and executive director of ProDESC (Proyecto de Derechos Económicos, Sociales y Culturales). Since 2005, she and her team have led processes to protect economic, social and cultural rights, reaching unprecedented results like the application of business accountability mechanisms. Due to the impact of her work, she received the Martin Ennals Award in 2014. In 2015, she was publicly recognized by the Mexican senate for her ongoing work to defend human rights. She has published several articles on the issue of human rights, power dynamics between human rights defenders, and energy transition with respect to human rights, among others. She is currently a member of the academic board of the law faculties at Universidad Iberoamericana Ciudad de México and Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Mexico; board member of the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights; member of the Global Reference Group in the German organization Brot für die Welt; and member of ECCHR’s advisory board.
