Air warfare has long-lasting consequences for civilians. Insufficiently protected by existing law, left vulnerable by the legal prioritization of military tactics, and hardly compensated for their sacrifices, civilians suffer the most. Many recent examples of air warfare show the deadly consequences caused by powerful states. The asymmetry between those using air warfare and those exposed to it calls for a reorientation of the law as we know it.
