Decolonize Berlin is an association founded in 2019 from a civil society network of Black, diasporic, postcolonial and development initiatives and associations. For decades, they have been campaigning for a critical examination of colonialism and racism, for the recognition and reappraisal of colonial injustice and for an overall societal decolonisation. They demand the complete restitution of all the dead looted during the colonial era, many of which are on display in German museums. This report is a first step towards disclosing information about human remains from colonial contexts in the state of Berlin in order to enable those affected to search specifically for their ancestors.
