Annual report
2025
Fundamental and human rights are under threat worldwide. Even in democratic states, critical civil society is becoming an ever-greater thorn in the side of authoritarian rulers and is subjected to numerous attacks. The scope for civil society engagement and social movements is dwindling.
The law plays a double-edged role here: on the one hand, it is used to silence voices deemed unwelcome. On the other hand, it is an important tool for us as human rights defenders to protect civil society as best we can. We are dedicating this year's ECCHR Annual Report to legal action against the dismantling of human rights. True to the motto: a resistant civil society is the best antidote to authoritarian rule.
We would appreciate if you could take the time to read our annual report and discover what we and our partners achieved in 2024 – which is also thanks to your support.
