Annemie Schaus is ordinary professor at the Faculty of Law and Criminolgy of the Free University of Brussels (ULB). She was successively director of the Center of Public Law (Centre de Droit Public), then dean of the Faculty and vice-rector for the academic policy of the university. She is specialized in international human rights law. Her work and teachings focus on the relationship between international and domestic law, constitutional law (including comparative public law) and human rights. In 2015, she created a human rights clinic, which is a success among NGOs and students. She coordinates an important research project financed by the French Community (Belgian federated entity) on Stategic Litigation in the fight against poverty and against impunity. She has directed (and still supervises) many doctoral theses in law. She is an associated member of several university research centers. Schaus is also lawyer at the Brussels Bar since 1988. Apart from that, she is very active in the militant and socio-cultural world in Brussels.
