In his paintings, installations and performances Nghia Nuyen explores the philosophical dimension of the individual and, as a result, the political. At the age of fourteen Nuyen fled Saigon with his family. He was taken on board the ship Cap Anamur belonging to the organization Deutsche Notärzte and has lived in Germany since 1981. In his work as an artist he stages water crossings, giving a ritualized dimension to his experience of fleeing.
