ECCHR-conference: Transnational corporations and human rights

On October 9th and 10th 2008, experts from around the world came to Berlin for a conference focusing on “Transnational Corporations and Human Rights.” The conference provided a forum for representatives of human rights and development organizations, lawyers, social activists, and academics to debate concrete effects of globalization on human rights, as well as the current human rights violations committed by transnational corporations.
The conference was organized by the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) in cooperation with two church aid organizations, Brot für die Welt and Misereor. Approximately thirty speakers and two hundred participants from more than thirty countries attended. At issue was the transnational struggle to hold corporations accountable for human rights violations.
