The Prasanna De Silva Case

5 April 2012 The Sri Lankan Major General Prasanna De Silva is defense attaché at the Sri Lankan High Commission in London since September 2010. According to a report by The Guardian, De Silva’s withdrawal is expected within the next days. A reason for the withdrawal is a 28-pages background dossier supported by ECCHR on the alleged involvement of De Silva in war crimes committed during the last months of the Sri Lankan civil war (January - May 2009).

The Jagath Dias Case

22 September 2011 Jagath Dias, Major General of the Sri Lankan Army during the final stages of the civil war in Sri Lanka and subsequently vice-ambassador for Germany, Switzerland and the Vatican until September 2011, faces several criminal investigations in case of his re-entry to Europe. Based on a Dossier by ECCHR about Jagath Dias, the Swiss Federal Prosecutor announced the initiation of a formal criminal investigation against Jagath Dias in case of his return to the country.

The UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women urges prompt investigations into acts of sexual violence in Sri Lanka

10 February 2011 The Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW Committee) urges Sri Lanka to "promptly investigate, prosecute and punish all acts of violence including sexual violence" which arose during the last stages of the conflict and in the post-conflict phase. Prior to this, ECCHR submitted a report during the 48th Session CEDAW Committee on the foreseeability of sexual violence during the Sri Lanka conflict.
